NGO's - Members SFCC call for second AGM
The members of the Shanghai Foreign Correspondents Club have decided during their annual general meeting to hold another general meeting within sixty days. There was great appreciation for the activities of the club that exploded last year, while the number of members doubles again, now to 160.
But the members found it hard to discharge the board as no financial figures were available, a budget was lacking and also treasurer Paul French failed to materialize to give his view on the financial situation of the SFCC. The meeting decided to go over de financials within sixty days.
Also a fundamental disagreement about the direction of the club needed more consideration, the meeting agreed. The board had introduce a 'new member fee' in an effort to reduce the number of new members coming in, especially of non-journalists. Other members thought that halting the growth of the club was not a good idea, but should be met by a different way of managing the organization. Also, others resisted applying the 'sign-up' fee to both journalists and non-journalists, since the SFCC want to encourage foreign journalists to join there club.
