Even in Shanghai taxi's you're not safe

economy - Are LCD screens working?

Bingfeng Teahouse brings up an interesting question now Focus Media, the market leader in LCD screens in Shanghai, is buying up its competition. The question is: does it work?

rumors from some sources say that customers are starting to suspect the effectiveness of the ads they put on Focus Media's LCD screens in office buildings.

now the LCD screens appear in supermarkets, hospitals and other places that Focus Media say could attract the attention of customer groups, but as we in shanghai all know, they are advertisements and advertisements don't get a lot of attention from shanghai people because they hate advertisements.

To be honest, as somebody working on the internet where you can actually measure clicks very efficiently, I have had doubts on how effective print media, commercials and billboards would actually be. The ad agencies of course claim they can measure the usage of traditional media very well, but since media, the companies measuring the effects of media and those agencies have a profound interest in maintaining the illusion that ads do have an effect, I'm not that much impressed by their claims.

I'm not sure that Shanghai people really hate the ads, like Bingfeng says, but I'm also not convinced about their effectiveness.
