The party secretary of Guangdong Province, Zhang Dejiang, saw himself in troubled waters as the Politburo rejected alledgedly Zhang's report on the events in Dongzhou. ESWN has done invaluable translation work on the issue again.
It is a further indication that the shooting in the Guangdong village by military police has upset the leadership in Beijing. Is was not the first problem Zhang Dejiang encountered, as he was also responsible for the initial coverup of SARS, major coal mine and environmental disasters.
Remarkably is that ESWN takes sides in this high-level powerstruggle and prefers Zhang to hang onto his job, an argument that angers others. For good reason, I think.
