Rupert Murdoch

media - Mogul shifts its attention to new media

Australian media mogul Rupert Murdoch is putting his money where his word is and moves in China from the traditional media to the new media, an article by XFN suggests.
Last year Murdoch surprised everybody by announcing that he would be refocusing on the new media. In China his efforts to get access to satellite broadcasting has run into problems with the Chinese government who banned last year all foreign participation in domestic broadcasting.
Murdoch is expected to withdraw from Phoenix TV, although there is no formal confirmation of that move yet. But despite Murdoch's frustrations China is still on his agenda. Rumors suggest:
... that he will be a major financier in a new venture fund run by China Netcom chief executive Edward Tian suggest that News Corp may be looking to shift its focus from traditional media to new media in China.
China Netcom is involved in a major operation to get the 3G mobile telecom going by next year, an effort that would also need massive investments in content to make the service interesting for the consumers.
