telecom - China Mobile might prefer European standard

Mobile phone giant China Mobile said it might prefer the European standard WCDMA for its third generation mobile phone over the Chinese standard TD-SCDMA, according to a report in The Standard.
For China Mobile, who has already an extensive GSM-network, building on top of the existing European standard might be much cheaper than rolling out as fully new network, as the new players China Telecom and China Netcom will have to do. Wang Xiaochu, CEO of China Mobile, said:
... capital spending per line for 3G services should be "considerably" lower than that of 2G.
