internet - No separate Chinese garden

The story that China is setting up a separate internet, with its own domain names away from the international ICANN, is a powerful one that keeps on winning momentum. Just for the record: it is also not true but based on a faulty translation, as my colleague Rebecca MacKinnon explains here.
Well, that obviously does not stop the story. It just fits very well into the way people seem to perceive China. Again: not true, a misunderstanding.

Update: Also the International Herald Tribune has it wrong.
