media - Different accounts of the Shantou conflict

ESWN gives the different accounts by different media about the violent clashes in the village of Bomei at Shantou. The South China Morning Post, AP and Ming Pao focus on the violent acts only, without giving even the most basic background of the conflict. Quite amazing, since the reports by The Guardian and the Sing Tao do explain that background and suggest the local goverment had excellent reasons to take on their farmers. According to the Guardian:
Government officials refused to comment, but residents of a neighbouring village said they had little sympathy for the people of Bomei. "Their sluice gate was rightly prohibited because it has a bad impact on all the villages downstream," said Chen Juan, of Xi village. "I saw them throwing bricks at the police."
Worst performer by all mean is The Apple Daily who has found an explanation nobody else has noticed:
On the day before yesterday, the Shantou municipal government disclosed to some media for the first time the official version of the police-citizen clash in Bomei village. They claimed that some Bomei villagers believed in a geomancer's claim that "not building the sluice gates will affect the fortune of Bomei village."
Official figures suggest that China is dealing with an average of 230 'mass incidents" per day. Some better reporting on why those are happening would then be very important. If we can believe the figure of 230 incidents of course.
