book - China's second communication revolution
When I wrote my first book on China (in Dutch, later translated in German) I promised myself and the rest of the world this would never happen again. The torturous and lonely process of writing a book just did not match the poor financial returns. It did help me to get into the business of giving lectures, advising companies, but when last year I was asked to write a book in the internet in China, I was very happy that other activities and a lack of financial backing allowed me to back out.
But this week the book virus emerged again. Since the beginning of this year I'm helping a range of projects to enter China and the frenzy that I would current summarize as the "second" communication revolution.
The plans to make the internet mobile, by using the third generation of mobile technology, can - if all goes well - double the current number of internet users of 120 million in about five to ten years. That would be a rather more exciting approach than just writing an overview of the historical events up to now.
This week I played a bit with the idea and one sentence after the other rolled on my computer screen. Much of my own activities has to remain confidential at this stage, but that should be different by the end of this year. To put the upcoming second communication revolution into perspective for a foreign audience, that would make sense, I would feel.
Not sure if I want to make the writing of the book into a public process with my readers, as has happened a few times rather successfully in the US bloghosphere. Since much of the process had to remain confidential for the coming month, that would be something to decide later.
Anyway, it might reduce some of the output on this weblog: there is only so much a person can do.

Your new book is definitely well expected. Good wish to your work. Also sad to know there will be fewer output on your blog. But we understand. Good luck for you and China internet
