internet - Blogspot unblocked, for now
Danwei noted that the blogspot-domain names of blogger.com were unblocked today. The weblog host, owned by Google, has been blocked for days. I checked one of the weblogs Danwei advised, Sex and Shanghai.
It was indeed available in Shanghai and Beijing without proxy, although our English language teacher seems to have been very busy doing other things in the past week than updating his weblog. Danwei gives a whole bunch of interesting weblogs you might want to register in your RSS-readers, so you do not need a proxy in the future to read them.
There are a few reasons to expect this is only a temporary hole in the Great Firewall. First, most changes take place at the beginning of each month to prevent the censor from really getting overworked. Secondly, the blogspot-service has a major scheduled outage last night, probably causing some changes in the IP-addresses the service uses. It might take a while, but nanny might ment the hole in the coming weeks again.
