labor - Trade union PR-offensive against Wal-Mart

I have not been paying too much attention to the establishment of trade unions at the Wal-Mart stores in China after the first one emerged in Fujian Province. The Chinese ACFTU is anything from a trade union, so the whole thing looks like a propaganda exercise that mainly has to create the illusion the Chinese trade union does more than organizing its annual outing in exchange for 3 percent of the payroll.
But then, the propaganda effort is continuing, and branches have emerged also in Shenzhen and Nanjing. The ACFTU even tries to sound like a real trade union:
The Federation told Wal-Mart not to interfere in the 31-member strong Nanjing union.
Now, they want to negotiate with Wal-Mart. I still wonder what about, but even serious propaganda efforts should be taken serious. Annoying the hell out of Wal-Mart might be at least a minor side-effect.

Update: According to AP already five Wal-Mart stores have already trade unions and the company has asked the ACFTU for a meeting, although no details are set yet.
