Shi Tao

media - Shi Tao sues Yahoo in the US

Shi Tao, the Chinese journalists who got convicted in 2005 to ten years of jail for the leaking of state secrets, is going to sue Yahoo in the US, writes the UK magazine PC Advisor. Yahoo provided the evidence the journalist had been sending emails to the US.
"We're also trying to line up other victims for a class-action. We've been in touch with a few others, but we haven't signed anyone up yet. It's a very sensitive issue because there could be reprisals against their families," said Albert Ho, a legislator in Hong Kong and lawyer in the case.
Considering the big scale attention his case got during the time of his conviction, this story got remarkable little traction.

This is excellent news--I hope Shi Tao gets a killer liability lawyer and a judge with a sense of justice so that he can fucking bury Yahoo under the "full weight of the law." What they did to him was reprehensible and must be punished severel to stop wider abuses of our privacy. Ironically, Yahoo-mail recently added this message:
"Protecting your privacy and information online is extremely important to Yahoo!. We are constantly evaluating our security technologies to ensure we are taking every reasonable step to protect your personal information."

Yah, righteeo...
