internet - Google and Youtube in China
Often I'm pleasantly surprised by the articles in Seeking Alpha, but their analysis of how the cooperation between Google and YouTube might work out in China misses the boat on important points.
First, it sings praise of the Google China team after a host of articles indicating that Google China not only is losing its struggle with domestic competitor Baidu, but is actually losing a part of their current management, less than a year after they got hired, because they do not believe in the company. They seem out of touch with reality here.
The assumption that such a service might not work in China - pointing at the regulators - would be a misunderstanding. When YouTube does not work in China, it is more likely because of domestic competition Google cannot deal with. The discussion that you would need to be a licensed broadcaster to offer this kind of service, as the State Administration of Radio, TV and Film (SARFT) claimed in August, has past over as one of many misplaced and discounted efforts bu the administrators to expand their turf.
Especially when 3G takes off, that service will need a lot of content and they will embrace these new online tools.
