internet - How to get Jajah working?
I'm still getting requests from people who have problems in signing up for the free calls from Jajah. The system allows you to make free calls between phones, including mobiles, although you have to initiate the process online.
The problem is limited to a few regions in China, including Shanghai, where the service seems to be blocked. In other regions - like Beijing - there does not seem to be a problem. Since I have not been very clear when I explained how I found my way around the block, I will repeat it here in a bit systematical way.
First, you have to register at Jajah. You can get theire by using a proxxy, but then at the Jajah registration interface you are prompted country codes in Israel, Germany or other places you phones are not. So, we have for the registration to double cheat the Jajah server and get a proxxy in China. That is a bit more troublesome than your regular proxxy, but still doable - since I did it.
You can pick a proxxy server in China from this list, for example, write down the IP address and port number and paste it into your browser. (For the latest edition of Firefox you follow this path: tools, options, advanced, settings. Then you can change the settings. Do not forget to change them back when you are finished! For IE it is: tools, internet options, connections, settings). You should check whether you have a working proxy by clicking on any website: you might have to repeat the process maybe a few times to find a good proxxy.
Then you are set to register with Jajah. If you have bad luck, you have picked a region where Jajah is also blocked, but in most cases you should be fine. The Jajah interface now prompts the China country code for your phone numbers.
After registering and getting the settings of your browser to the old configuration, you can use your regular proxxies to access Jajah. When you next login to make calls, the settings will adjust to your preferences. Remember that when you want to make free calls the other side also has to register. Otherwise you have to pay a small fee, slightly lower than when you use Skype. Happy calling.
