labor - Guangdong sees reduction labor shortage

An economist of the Guangdong Academy of Social Sciences sees the current shortage of migrant workers disappear later this year, but even in the party's People's Daily his optimism is challenged. The industry in Guangdong is falling short of several million migrant workers since 2004 after living conditions back home started to improve compared to the financial advantages of working in the south of China.
Professor Li Youhuan contends that both wages and working conditions have improved enough to lure enough migrants to the wealthy province.
A recent survey conducted by the Guangdong Labour and Employment Service Administrative Centre indicated that the monthly salary of migrant workers reached 890 yuan (US$109.74) on average in the province in 2005 as compared with 750 yuan (US$92.48) in 2004; skilled workers got over 2,000 yuan (US$246.61) as compared with 1,600 yuan (US$197.29) in 2004.
