Oriental art center in Pudonglife - Visiting a Russian opera
Catching up with Shanghai's developments over de past year is a challenging task, but after my visit of the South Shanghai Railways Station, it looks like I will be attending a performance in the equally new Oriental art center in Pudong.
There the Russion opera The Nose by Shostakovich and Jeff asked me today if I wanted to join him. The first pictures of the building suggest I should arrive there early and take a compass. Shanghai is getting crazy, for sure, and taking me along.
Update: The story is from Stalinist Russia, but could easily apply to China. From Wikipedia, a description of the first act:
The morning after shaving Kovalyov, one of his regular customers, a barber finds a nose in his bread. He tries to get rid of it by throwing it in the Neva River, but he is caught by a policeman. Meanwhile Kovalyov wakes and finds his nose missing. He later sees his nose in the Kazan Cathedral, but it has acquired a higher rank than him and refuses to return to his face. The Chinese censor must have had an off-day.
Here are more amazing pictures of the venue.
