politics - Shanghai pension scandal: 50 detained and counting

Fifty people are detained already in the Shanghai pension scandal that brought also down party secretary Chen Liangyu, reports the Beijing-supported Ta Kung Pao newspaper in Hong Kong, writes Reuters. They include both government officials and business people.
The Shanghai scandal has also ensnared China's top state statistician, Qiu Xiaohua. Hong Kong's South China Morning Post said Qiu was accused of securing 50 million yuan ($6.3 million) for his long-time lover from Zhu Junyi, the disgraced director of Shanghai's municipal labor and social security bureau which managed the pension fund.
