life - The competitive dating scene for expat women
Getting a date is almost impossible for foreign women in China, says an article in the China Daily on this hot issue.
"The dating scene in Beijing is sad," said 27-year-old Kate Minnikin, of Brisbane, Australia. "I know a lot of expat women who are single, but I don't know one foreign man who's single."
That summerizes the problem neatly: what to do with so much cute competition around? Some women have decided to blame it on the men, both foreign and Chinese. Chinese men tend to be too shy and the women turn foul on the foreign men:
"Beijing seems to attract only certain types of guys: English-teacher types straight out of college who just want to have fun, ladder-climbing executive types and a bunch of weirdoes," said Emily Patterson, 23, of Cleveland, Ohio, who works as a reporter for a Chinese magazine in Beijing. "You don't want a college guy. Maybe the executive type is already married, busy or boring. And of course, you don't want to date a weirdo.Don't come too Shanghai, I would say. Too many weirdo's here too. And the Shanghai women are even cuter than those in Beijing. I have heard similar complaints from other Asian countries like Japan too. When the foreign women just give up on the largest part of the market, the local men, there is no way they can win. I'm not much of an accountant, but even I can see that.
