economy - Chinese consortium said to take over Dutch car plant
A group of Chinese companies is said to be taking over an embattled Dutch car plant in Born, Nedcar, writes the Dutch daily De Telegraaf. The story does not disclose the name of the potential buyer, but said the Chinese were initially planning to build a new factory in Eastern Europe.
The plant originally produced the only Dutch sedan, the DAF, and was put in the region to make up for the joblosses because of the closure of the mining industry. The plant was taken over by different owners, now Japanese Mitsubishi and produced cars for Volvo and Daimler-Benz. After those customers announced they would stop production, closure of the plant has been considered but might now be avoided.
Update: According to De Telegraaf of today the Chinese company involved in FAW. Not surprisingly since the size of the car maker.
