Milk scandal: spreading like a financial crisis

A picture I took of a Starbucks Venti Mint Moc...Image via WikipediaI did not count the coverage on the exploding milk scandal in China, but it looks like in coverage by both the traditional and online media, it has surpassed the Beijing Olympics. The only blessing in disguise: while the rest of the world is watching one US financial institute going down after another, China has again its own share of problems.
Kaiser Kuo (@kaiserkuo) is giving on his weblog an overview of the best online articles about the crisis, while Shanghaiist is summarizing the latest in the milk crisis. (@shanghaiist) Kaiser Kuo calls it now the melamine-gate, I liked the kidney-stone gate better, but I guess the jury is still out on the best tag for this scandal.
Baidu is getting a special place here on the internet buzz as they are accussed (and evidence seems to support that despite Baidu's denials) that they have been accepting Sanlu's money to filter initially their search results in favor of the milk company.
The sad overview, four babies died already, 6,000 are sick and 150 in a critical condition. Apart from Sanlu also Mengniu and Yili products have shown larger quantities of melamine, while Bright products had traces in it.
Major users of milk products, like Starbucks, are now taking action to secure the safety of their customers.
More at Shanghaiist.
