User generated content and China's state-controlled media might not be an obvious combination, but perhaps we have to rethink that. Danwei reports on the newly-established "Blog weekly" a news and current affairs magazine that wants to tap into the resources of the hundreds of millions of online Chinese citizens. Five hundred bloggers reporting on the nomination of Barack Obama did get some people thinking.
Danwei reports:
Blog Weekly is uniquely positioned to take advantage of the wealth of content available online: according to a magazine employee, it is currently the only publication authorized by GAPP to draw its content exclusively from blogs...
When blogs first took off in China, journalists were quick to adopt them as a way to express themselves outside of the confines of the self-censoring mainstream press, and journalist-bloggers continue to be a force behind online public opinion. Blog Weekly takes advantage of some of those bloggers in this issue.
