The Netherlands tightens visa rules for business visits
WikipediaDutch companies who want to invite staff or business partners to the Netherlands face now new barriers to get visas, business people in China and Hong Kong complain. The new barriers make it harder for them to get Chinese citizens over.
"They now need a proof of solvency of the employer or company that asks for a business visa." says one of them on the condition of anonymity. "Also, we now need to show the original business license in China, in the past a copy was ok. If you lose your business license, you have big trouble in China. Also new is a compulsory medical insurance of 30,000 euro."
While not insurmountable the barriers have put a strain on the relationship between Dutch companies and the Dutch diplomats, although the business people fear retaliation when they would complain.
Do you have seen a tightening of the visa rules also in other European countries? Do let me know.

Hi Fons, actually I have a similar experience with the Spanish Embassy in Beijing. On August 15 this year they have doubled the criteria for student-visa applications.
Basically all European Embassies have tightened their restrictions simply as repercussion to the Chinese visa regulations before and during the Olympics.
It's a pity it has to be like this, authorities make decisions and civilians have to "suffer" from it...
