Xiaolingtong's spectrum traded for 3G

Several mobile phonesvia WikipediaThe popular mobile Xiaolingtong service is going to disappear so its spectrum can by used by the upcoming 3G-networks, reports the Cellular News. With more than 90 million users the mobile extension of China Telecom's fixed line system, it was a runaway success from the early start.
The Xiaolingtong offered China Telecom a legal loophole into mobile communication. Its range was limited to one city, but because of its pricing very popular. Also China Netcom offered Xiaolingtong as a service.
Both China Telecom and China Netcom will get licenses for mobile communication, so they seem to be more interested in offering more expensive services, like 3G.
